Today, and for first time ever in American history, an African-American won the American presidential election. The American is Barack Hussein Obama II. He'll be the 44th president of United States of America. And he's young, just 47 years old.
It has taken American more than two hundred years to elect an African-American into the oval office. I applaud the American nation for their blindness to skin colour, their maturity and open-mindedness. This, on itself, is a victory for all Americans not only the African-American. I'm cheering for them even though I am not an American nor am I residing in USA.
However, whether Obama is the right candidate for the top job at this current time remains to be seen. In Chinese language, the pronunciation of "44" is similar to "die die". In Chinese culture, that is not auspicious. His term will definitely be tough. Not only is he tauted as inexperienced, he has to also contend with the US and global economy downturn. I think that state of economy in any country is always important. With recession, trails high unemployment. High unemployment generates dissatisfaction amongst the citizens. The dissatisfaction from the citizen will reflect and bear weight on whomsoever is in the oval office. So, the upcoming months will not be easy and it will not get easier.
I wish Obama and his team the very best. Halle Berry must be crying.
