Katak bawah tempurung ler

Don't laugh but I must confess I don't know much about the tourist sites in Melaka. When out of town friends come visiting or asking, I always crack my head to think of places for them to visit.
I am not recommending Zoo Melaka. I'm still angry at the conditions of the animals. And that was like 4 years ago.
Anyway, relatives from Singapore came avisiting last week. After dinner, I offered to chauffer them around. Ended up at the river Melaka. Oh.... was I wonderfully surprised. That place had really been cleaned up nicely and the lights are beautiful. No smell of mud at all. There was a waterwheel but it was only for display. Never knew there was such a thing in Melaka in the old sultanate days. My history book never told me that.
But pity the place looks bare. Shops are still empty. Not many people around. Most of those we saw are locals. My relative commented that what the place needed was a beer garden. With beer garden, the foreigners would sure come and hang around. Read on the sign the river cruise lasted 45 minutes. Cost Rm10 for adult and RM5 for children. And it's open till midnight.
Also drove to Majestic Hotel. My relatives had also heard of it. Oh wow...those tiles are really original. Didn't see them but even the deluxe room sounded luxurious. And so should they because the price was eye-popping to yours truly. Uh ha .... only the rich can afford la. Oh, and they had these glass containers at strategic locations in the lobby which contained tidbits. The one on the reception table contained gula melaka. Man, haven't had those in ages. Another container down the hall contained these biscuits which I loved since childhood. There are these small round biscuits with colourful wavy solid icing on top. Yum yum.
As it was not the weekend, could not bring them to see Jonker Walk. Perhaps next time...
